Apesar da desconfiança inicial, a contratação de Arboleda, em junho de 2017, findou um problema e deu estabilidade para defesa do São Paulo, que sofria com o alto número de gols sofridos do primeiro semestre. Rapidamente, o zagueiro ganhou a condição de titular, mas quando Aguirre assumiu o comando do time, porém, o equatoriano deixou a condição absoluta para entrar no rodízio.
“A única coisa que faço é trabalhar forte todos os dias. Não me considero titular, mas um jogador do elenco, um trabalhador, que tenta mostrar seu valor e aproveitar as oportunidades. Sei que temo que fazer tudo pelo bem do time, pelos companheiros e pelo São Paulo merece. Só trabalhando cada vez mais posso ganhar o posto de titular”, ressaltou.
Com a parada da Copa do Mundo e o período sem jogos, o treinador uruguaio ganhou tempo para treinar o time e as atividades táticas que foram possíveis de acompanhar deram indícios de que o equatoriano deve voltar a ser o titular ao lado de Anderson Martins, deixando Bruno Alves e Rodrigo Caio, ainda lesionado, como opções.
Com boas alternativas, ainda existe a possibilidade de Aguirre voltar a adotar, em alguns momentos, a formação com três zagueiros. Questionado sobre sua preferência, Arboleda se mostrou indiferente e adaptado a qualquer formação. “Não tenho problema em jogar com linha de três ou de quatro. Temos que nos preparar para qualquer situação. Temos que, acima de tudo, seguir bem defensivamente, independente do sistema”, finalizou.
