O ex-jogador e atual diretor de futebol do São Paulo, Raí, completou 55 anos nesta sexta-feira. Ídolo do Tricolor pelo futebol apresentado na década de 90, o Terror do Morumbi integrou a diretoria do clube no final de 2017, mas ainda não obteve o mesmo sucesso que conseguiu dentro dos gramados.
Revelado pelo Botafogo-SP, Raí chegou ao São Paulo em 1987 por 24 milhões de cruzados, transação mais cara entre dois clubes brasileiros até então. Apesar do título do Campeonato Paulista em 1989, o antigo camisa 10 só virou unanimidade entre os torcedores tricolores em 1991.
Por conta das derrotas nas finais dos Campeonatos Brasileiros de 1989, para o Vasco, e 1990, para o Corinthians, Raí e todo o time do São Paulo foram criticados e apelidados até de “pipoqueiros”. A volta por cima veio com os títulos do Brasileiro e Paulistão de 1991, seguidos pelas conquistas da Libertadores do Mundial Interclubes em 1992 e 1993.
Os impressionantes feitos do Tricolor no início dos anos 90 elevaram Raí ao merecido statusde craque e removeram a fama de “pé-frio” do técnico Telê Santana, outro grande ídolo do clube do Morumbi.
Quase trinta anos depois, Raí ainda faz parte do São Paulo, agora como diretor de futebol do clube. Em pouco mais de dois anos no cargo, o ex-jogador não conquistou títulos, mas colecionou alguns fracassos.Em 2018, o São Paulo foi eliminado na primeira fase da Copa Sul-Americana para o inexpressivo Colón, da Argentina. Um ano depois, a história de repetiu, mas dessa vez com o Talleres e na Pré-Libertadores. Na única final que o clube do diretor Raí alcançou, o Tricolor foi superado pelo Corinthians, no Paulistão do ano passado.
A situação financeira do São Paulo também não agrada e é mais uma dificuldade para Raí. Em 2019, o ídolo conseguiu trazer grandes nomes para o elenco, como Daniel Alves, Pato e Pablo, mas gastou R$ 149 milhões nas negociações, um investimento que até o momento não se provou. Além disso, o Tricolor acumulou um déficit de R$ 156 milhões na temporada passada.
